At Windows & Mirrors, we are dedicated to a comprehensive approach to education, prioritizing the reflection of students' identities, experiences, and backgrounds within the curriculum. We understand the importance of creating learning materials that resonate with learners, validate their perspectives, and nurture a sense of belonging and self-worth. Through the concept of mirrors, we ensure that students see themselves represented in their education, fostering a connection between their personal experiences and academic content.
Our commitment extends beyond mere reflection; we also emphasize the significance of windows in education. By incorporating diverse perspectives, cultures, and experiences into our curriculum, we provide students with opportunities to explore and understand the world beyond their immediate environment. This approach opens new avenues of knowledge and understanding, promoting empathy, appreciation for diversity, and global awareness.
At Windows & Mirrors, we believe that merging these two concepts creates a well-rounded educational experience. It values self-reflection and personal identity while encouraging exploration and engagement with the wider world. Our goal is to offer inclusive, diverse, and enriching educational resources that empower students to learn, develop, and succeed in today's interconnected world.
Our curriculum is designed to be dynamic and adaptable, allowing for continuous integration of new perspectives and ideas, which makes it perfect for homeschoolers. We collaborate with educators, cultural experts, and community members to ensure that our materials are relevant, accurate, and reflective of the diverse society in which we live. By doing so, we strive to create an educational environment that is not only informative but also transformative, helping students to become thoughtful, informed, and compassionate global citizens.
Reflecting You, Exploring New, Education through Every Perspective
About Us
I am an eclectic and secular homeschool mom with a deep love for reading, curriculum writing, and teaching. I'm outgoing, loud, and love to talk. I often find myself diving deep into whatever piques my interest at the moment, much to the amusement (and occasional bewilderment) of my family. As a mother of three, I have been homeschooling for 20 years and teaching in co-ops for nearly as long. My educational journey began with the desire to provide a tailored and enriching learning experience for my children, which soon expanded to include a broader community of homeschool families. Over the years, I have had the pleasure of developing and sharing engaging educational content that has helped shape young minds and foster a love of learning.
Our homeschooling curricula are designed with the goal of educating children who aspire to improve society. This means teaching them to understand the world's complexities and wonders, including its darker aspects. We teach history with multiple perspective lens, unrestricted by faith or nationality, and show the effort required to make the world a better place for everyone. As a progressive homeschooling parent, the goal is to guide children to navigate the world with empathy, respect, and a strong sense of justice. Wouldn’t the world be a much better place if we had more adults that spoke up against disrespect and unkindness while demonstrating how to use compassionate and persistent advocacy for those who cannot speak for themselves?
When I'm not busy teaching, you’ll probably find me in the kitchen, whipping up meals because the way to my kids' hearts is definitely through their stomachs. My favorite spice to use is definitely use cumin. I put it in everything, including my pasta sauce! Cooking isn't just a necessity for me; it's a joy that brings my family together around the table. Though, I have to admit, I really hate cleaning—doesn't everyone? Another favorite pastime of mine is playing board games with my family, even though my kids have grown up and we don’t get to play as often as I’d like. These moments are precious and something I really value.
My passion for developing this homeschool curriculum stems from my own experiences of not feeling represented in my education. Although there have been improvements for my children, I frequently found myself creating additional resources because the existing material either lacked depth or didn't quite meet our needs. Over the years, many other families have expressed similar frustrations. Recognizing this widespread need, I decided to take action and bring to life an idea I had been considering for a long time.
On a personal note, I'm on a journey to embrace and love my curly hair, a task that sometimes feels as challenging as any lesson plan. I don’t love coffee; I understand if that means we can't be friends—but I hope our shared passion for education can bridge that gap. I hope the learning materials here are useful, insightful, and exactly what you've been looking for.
